Dustin's Boulder Dash

Post by Dustin »

Hi fans! :)

I've made a new game and would love to present it to you! Well I still don't have an own page or so, so I sent it to Arno for a release. If you like, here's a preview of the 16 caves and 4 ints. This time the style is rather classic: the five difficulty levels are made in the style of the original games by Peter Liepa. (only different seeds, diamonds-needed, time, speed).

Cave A (Pots): An easy intro.

Cave B (Diagon Alley): Not too difficult either, but this time you'll meet some fireflies at least.

Cave C (Smiley): Make sure to convert the rocks only, not the diamonds!

Cave D (Hide): Deflect the fireflies and crush the butterflies.

Cave E (Seesaw): The exit opens at once and is so close...

Cave F (Boxes): You must crush a part of the helpful magic wall, but only a part! I think this one is really hard on l5.

Cave G (Merry-Go-Round): Easy, but I found it funny

Cave H (Bonanza): A lesson in treasure- diving ;)

Cave I (Speed): An amoeba tries to block you off!

Cave J (Floors): How to get to the first floor?

Cave K (Zoo): This is not a petting zoo! Action!!

Cave L (Asteroid Belt): Okay, real asteroids wouldn't follow and try to catch you...

Cave M (Rocky Mountain): Between dozens and hundreds of rocks, find the few jewels!

Cave N (Treemake): A remake of the cave "tree" in BD2

Cave O (Fall): The weather forecast says: Rain!

Cave P (Palace): And once again you're not alone with your treasures...

Int Q (Twins): The twin rocks should fall through the magic wall side by side.

Int R (Cage): How to catch the butterfly?

Int S (Reaction): First you're trapped, and then in high danger!

Int T (Wheel): One more butterfly which isn't easy to crush!

EDIT: And here it is:

Hi fans! :D
Obviously I've got too much time at the moment ;) Now I'm as good as done with my next BD game! It contains lots of the new elements of Gdash, and there are special training levels for those who aren't yet familiar with these elements. I'll send it to Arno very soon. Hope you'll like it!

Hi!! :D
Now I'm nearly as good as done with the second part, Dustin's Boulder Dash 2! Only some final testing is needed. Once again there are five classical difficulty levels (variation of needed diamonds, random seeds, time, speed) and classical elements (dirt, space, rocks, diamonds, amoeba, wall, magic wall, slime, titanium wall, fire- and butterflies). Again I've thought of funny names for the caves, though they aren't visible in the game itself (I want to make it as classical as possible!) Here's a litte preview:

A (Fly Flap): After a spectacular showdown, which you should watch from a safe distance, your task probably isn't very hard (How hard it actually is, depends a bit on luck ;))

B (Rock'n'Roll): Another easy intro cave without any enemies.

C (Magic Square): Classical- you need a breakthrough and the magic can start!

D (Estimate): Stop the amoeba at the right time! Otherwise you'll be left with too little diamonds or with 200 rocks...

Int 1 (Gamble): I've tried to make a cave which is exactly 50% solvable. This one is close- 1909/4096 if I've calculated correctly.

E (Retrap): Wake up the amoeba and then trap it!

F (Scotland): A breakthrough cave, mainly made for the name ;D

G (Pyramids): An easy remake of BD1, I.

H (Summiteer): Lots of rocks try to block your way up!

Int 2 (Indecisiveness): Where to go- left or right? Here, it's good to be indecisive!

I (Transit): Another amoeba blocking the way!

J (Reconnaisance): Get to know the labyrinth before entering it!

K (Unoriented): Classical again- flies flying around, jewels to collect!

L (Parcour): Six tricky tasks- the higher the level, the more to solve!

Int 3 (Race): Who is faster- you or the Growing Wall?

M (Cash Machines): Drop boulders in- get jewels out!

N (Magic Square II): Completely different from cave C, in spite of the name- be surprised! ;)

O (Suck): More than 600 jewels there- but how many can you get before they vanish???

P (Glade): The butterfly must be lead to a glade or it won't give you everything you need!

Int 4 (Bad Company): Really difficult (to me)!

I hope you'll like the game!

Cheers, Dustin

Hi :)

Now I'm nearly done with the third game of the series, Dustin's Boulder Dash 3! The style will be the same as in 1 and 2. The difficulty on level 1 should be quite fine for BD pros. while I tried to make level 5 quite a challenge (it is for me, at least)
One thing will be non- classical: some of the cave colors couldn't have been made with the BD1 or BD2 engine. But everything else is 'old style' once again :)

A little cave preview:

A (Dream): My realisation of a dream I had some years ago. It's in some way similar to Rockfort 3, cave G, but the color scheme and the densities now fit better into what I dreamt of.

B (One-Way Doors): Visit eight rooms in clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, grab the jewels avoiding the flies and go back home!

C (Selection): Drop the rocks into the absorber, but be careful or the few jewels will vanish too!

D (Grid): A maze in which you mustn't block yourself off while searching for the jewels!

Int 1 (Arrow): The arrow shows which rock you must use to hit the butterfly. You'll soon see why ;)

E (Good Mood): A happy wall is more helpful than an ill-tempered one!

F (Frontier): You come out directly at the frontier between the firefly and the butterfly area!

G (Windows): A cave full of prisons and breakouts!

H (Pirate Island): 'Swim' from island to island and steal the pirate's jewels without being caught!

Int 2 (Coverage): Cover the magic wall at the right places!

I (Good Wall Hunting): Crush the disturbing wall and use the valuable magic wall beneath!

J (Diamonds): The name sounds as if it could fit into every BD cave? Here it has a special meaning! :)

K (Cosmonaut): Rockford comes out of his spaceship - and is 'greeted' by meteorits!

L (Rock Around The Clock): Put a rock into the butterflies' dance floors or they'll dance on! Hope you'll like the name of the cave when you see the cave! :)

Int 3 (Priorities): Set priorities - the jewels must wait!

M (Pile of Debris): Lots of boulder and narrow spaces, inspired by BD1, cave K.

N (Sendy's Timers): Here I 'stole' one of my favorite cave of Sendy Dash 1 because I like the idea and found that it could be well used for a 5-level version!

O (Aptitude Test): Five ways- each leads to a different exam - and only one is accessible on each level! So you've got a different task to solve on each level!

P (Multiplication Palace): In the final cave you can sacrifice some jewels in order to get even more!

Int 4 (Cave-in): Only three fireflies survive the cave-in. With a good eye you can find out which ones! The intermission itself is not too difficult.

Perhaps I could make you curious? :)
Cheers, Dustin

Dustin's BD 4 is finished! Thanks Arno for the release! It does not contain fully new caves but I made a remix of the caves of the RockFort trilogy. I took the caves which I thought were usable well for a CLASSICAL 5-level-style (I like varying the difficulty only by changing seeds, needed diamonds, speed and time!). There is one major difference to the classical BD games: it is not over after cave P ;) I wish you as much fun as I had making the game :)
Cheers Dustin

Hi all! For those who have played through Arno Dash 21 and look for another classical game to play, soon will come out Dustin's Boulder Dash 5!
And for those who like spoiler, here's a preview:

A (Avanti!): Very othodox opening, collect all diamonds in relatively short time!

B (Quattro Stagioni): Four quarters, four different tasks to solve in a kind of merry-go-round!

C (Dungeon): First of all, escape the immediate danger and then go for as many diamonds as possible (300 are needed on l5)

D (Farfalle): No pasta today, but enough jewels to buy tons of pasta!

E (Avalanche): You need all diamonds again within a rocky landscape. Make sure not to close all paths to the exit!

F (Trap Me): What is this: it looks like jelly, makes noise and if you trap it, the amoeba converts? Oops ;) In this case there's no time to hesitate!

G (Pyramid): Here a clear plan is needed: first clean the dirt inside the pyramid, then fill it with jewels and finally blast your way in!

H (Troublemaker): If you just follow the promenade, you will find some jewels, but not enough. So try and "persuade" the bad boys at the roadside to give you more!

I (Inflation): Too many jewels to be valuable, so just find your way through them!

J (Deflation): The inflation is over. Don't miss a single jewel now!

K (Meteor Strike): First survive, then escape!

L (Escape Tunnel): Fisrt hunted, then hunter!

M (Tick Tock Clock): Always find the gap in the impressive formation of the mutant insects!

N (Blow-Up): It starts like New Year's Eve! And when the fun is over, Rockford comes out and looks for diamonds and fireflies that have survived the fireworks.

O (Outsmarted!): In a narrow tunnel, you must find a way to fool two fireflies and steal their six jewels. (You actually don't need all six on level 1-2).

P (Gilded Cage): If you just do what is obvious, the diamonds won't be enough by far. Diamonds coming from butterflies can also be useful before you collect them!

Perhaps this has made you curious? Release soon! :) Cheers Dustin

Dustin's BD 7 is out!
Thanks again for the release, Arno!
And thanks to cirix for the GDash engine for which all my games so far are made!
Dustin's BD 7 is, as its predecessors, a classical 5-level game! I still find it very interesting how the difficulty can be varied only by means of random seed, number of needed diamonds, cave time and speed. This time, level 5 includes some (for me) insanely hard caves where I tested for hours to find out how many diamonds I could get or to solve a seemingly unsolvable random seed.
Short cave descriptions are included in the game itself this time, but as an appertizer, here are the names that hopefully make you curious to see the caves! ;)

A - Eight Treasures
B - Wildlife
C - Limited Explosive
D - Star
Int1 - Detour

E - Musical
F - Catch Me If You Can
G - Alleyways
H - Rocks Or Money
Int2 - Tag

I - Rory's Vault
J - Mini Jobs
K - Vein Tract
L - Sixpack
Int3 - Need For Greed?

M - Gold Mine Blocker
N - Heckled
O - Are You Nuts?!
P - Clone
Int4 - Maximum

I wish you just as much fun playing the game as I had designing it! :)

I just noted that I forgot to delete in the intro text of DBD 7 the note that I've made replays of every cave on level 5 - actually I haven't because replays of higher levels seem to be buggy in the latest GDash version! I still guarantee that every cave is perfectly solvable (even though some are very difficult on l5)!
