Atari 2600 Boulder Dash

Post by Andrew Davie »

Just a heads-up that I've posted a video of an Atari 2600 version of Boulder Dash on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbiH4jFpfb0

This was quite a technical challenge, as the machine has no hardware video memory (all updates to screen are on-the-fly as the TV beam sweeps), single-colour background, and only 40 pixel horizontal resolution for background graphics. Overall I think the result, given the hardware limitations, are amazing.

Cheers

Wow, great job! :D
Just wondering, what time was the game released for this machine? Or did you code it yourself?

I coded it myself. I'm still doing a bit of improvement to it. It has not been released.

This project didn't die. A demo has just been released of FUNNEL and APOCALYPSE caves. Visit http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/18 ... o-release/ to download the binary. You'll also need the 'stella' Atari 2600 emulator.

Nice work Andrew! Awesome :)

I should get the stella emulator so I can try it out - I've never played on an Atari 2600 before ;)

PS. I notice you live in Tasmania...so do I! :)

cheers,
Paul
