Problem with Future Dash

Post by johnomg »

G'day All :D

I'm having trouble getting Future Dash to run properly and looking for some help.

Normally I use CCS64 V3.6 and it's worked fine with all the Arno Dash, Exploding Dash and Santa's Dash games. I tried to run Future Dash on VICE V2.1 and got the exact same problem.

This is what I'm experiencing:
- I double click on the game to start it
- I see the Blue C64 screen that shows the usual Load, Ready and Run info
- I then get a Black Screen, along the top it says: Coolwriter V2.0 (etc....)
- Below are several choices for Restart, Speeds, Stop and Start
- I press the Spacebar as it says to start the game and nothing happens
- I hold down the Ctrl key press the Spacebar and it goes to the next screen
- I then see Arno's Intro/Welcome
(which is weird in itself as it's like watching him type and make changes to sentences, correct spelling and change colours???)
- Then it goes to a screen which builds the phrase: "Boulder Dash Rulez!!"
- Then a screen that says "Bye!" appears
- Under that there is a flashing "Restart Y/N"

My problem is:
- If I type "Y" Arno's Intro/Welcome appears and it ends on the "Restart Y/N" screen again, it just loops around?
- If I type "N" it takes me to the Blue C64 screen, the game has closed?

I assume that the game is suppose to appear between the "Boulder Dash Rulez!!" screen and the "Bye"/"Restart Y/N" screen?

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for any advice.

Regards

The disk image contains several files. It looks like you've used the "Autostart" feature of VICE, which always loads the first file on the disk.

This first file is called "Read me!" and it consists of an introduction text. The actual game is a different file on the same disk, and is called "Future Dash". So what you need to do is run this file. In WinVice this works as follows:
- Menu File --> attach disk image --> drive 8
- Select the disk image, and look under 'Image contents' for the file you want to run.
- Doubleclick on that file, and it will load an run.

Good luck ;)

G'day Arno :D

In a word: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm use to just clicking on the File I download and away the Game goes.

Your assumption was spot on the money, I was asking CCS64 and VICE to start the Disk Image and obviously they were starting the first file they found, which was "Read Me!".

I've just tried your instructions on CCS64/VICE and it works a treat :D

WOOOHOOO!!! I'm off to play Future Dash now....shhhhhh

Thanks for setting me straight Arno :)
