Tutorial 2: Design your caves with the Construction Kit

Version: 1.1, 25-08-2007 The second Tutorial describes how to design your own Boulder Dash caves using the Boulder Dash Construction Kit. This time a lot of details are discussed so the post has become a bit long.... :coffee: The main menu When the CK has started you enter the main menu. It gives 3...

except for color 5 (amoeba, slime) :)

No, Peter Liepa colored the caves of the Atari version; these colors are different from the C64 version (but not better i.m.h.o).

There is a program, I had it loaded up but lost it. It had a mini overview of the whole cave and some text at the top for setting seeds and stats. Can it be this one? I haven't tried it yet, but it seems it can be used to create games with the BD1 (or BD2) engine (so with random seeds etc.) Unfortu...

And the other problem with BD3 was that each cave was only one color and different shades of that color. Plus, the color pattern was the same for each half of the game. Booooooring! And the intermissions all had the same light-blue color (looks nice BTW - like ice crystals, yet still boring to have...

Basically, you send your vsf's to this Monty Mole fellow and he converts it to an .avi and publishes it on his site. Then, you can download the avi and do whatever you want with it! :D I'm afraid Monty Mole will not convert it to avi. He once told me that w.r.t. Boulder Dash games, he only likes to...

I'm ready to do this! :sunsmiley: BTW, my videos won't be so spectacular, but I'm just going for completion, as of now. :) Well, the package is updated today and the video's are included. Keep up the good work, RTADash! Included is also the hint sheet. Also RTA Dash 1 is updated and the ...

I'm pretty sure these were intentional, specified in the BDCFF as "WALL2". I think they were available since the very first BD engine, but weren't implemented until this game (and never used again after it). Any ideas on this? I remember the WALL2 was used in a few other games too, one ex...

Nope, but you can enclose it at 199 squares for maximum production. OK! Instead of gray, I recommend "Colors=Purple Purple Purple" Or even better, I implement the scanline appearace in the converter... In Watson's version multiple Rockfords are in all intermissions True! I was mixin...

As said before, I like the RTA Dash games very much! The caves have a very simple, "professional" design, i.m.o., and most fields are not hard to complete. Much like the classic/original BD games! :) [Edit] My favo caves are: - RTAD1: C, H, L, N - RTAD2: J, M, N, P - RTAD3: B, int1, L, O, ...

I'm having trouble recording a good video for any of the games. It not a software or hardware problem. The problem is myself  ; I either get distracted or am made nervous (don't know why) by the fact that I'm recording a video. Because of this I usually make stupid mistakes and experience mult...

----> MAPS + NoOne's version . The equal random seeds are strange indeed (not only in the BDCFF, but also in the game itself). It seems like dr. Watson didn't really care about the higher levels. About the color setup in Int2, this is because colors 1...4 are coded (in the memory) by a number betwee...

Exactly! Only for the BD2 maps at the website, I used the BD1 graphics, so that the amoeba/slime appear to be white there. Also the picture of the amoeba differs a bit from the BD1 graphics: the holes are bigger, since the "border" of the holes has colour 2 instead of 4. To implement this,...

That's the BD2 Dirt Modification. Personally I don't like this modification because the colour of the light reflected by the walls and boulders (but also the diamonds and the fireflies) will not be the same as the amoeba. I like it when the amoeba determines the glow of light in the cave. This way t...
