How boulder dash EX is even called "boulder dash"

Despite of how much i love BDex, and it being one of my favourite games, if you asked me my favourite BD sequel, it would be far from the answer because of how different it is from any games part of the series
Boulder dash EX is weird, like, it's very different from other boulder dash games.
Protagonist/main player character being Rockford? Nah, Alex
Fireflies that explode and Butterflies that explode into diamonds? Nah
Timer that forces you to collect as much diamonds and finish cave before it runs out? Nah, timer only for battlemode that's multiplayer, and you don't need to finish before the timer runs out, just collected as much diamonds without dying until it runs out
Player character dying instantly? Nah, health bar (unless boulder crushes Alex, then he dies instantly)
As much i love BDex, I don't think it deserves to be called Boulder dash EX, i feel like it would be better off as it's own game, or q spinoff series to boulder dash.
I feel like only reason it's even called "boulder dash" is because it has port of original boulder dash as an game mode.
I have a hypothetical joke story about development of boulder dash EX,
So, Kemco (another publisher) decides to check on Vision Works (a developer of the game) developing a Boulder dash EX
"NO VISION WORKS, YOU WENT A LITTLE TOO FAR, OH GOD, FIRST STAR SOFTWARE (publisher of boulder dash series) IS GOING TO BE MAD, DO SOMETHING"
and Vision Works ports original boulder dash as an gamemode that's part of a Boulder dash EX
